I Have Big News!! Like Navy Big!!!

Standard

Hi everyone!

Here it is! I am now employed with the United States Navy! I can’t even begin to explain how excited and nervous I am right now! I am amazingly happy at the prospect of applying my education and all the experience I accrued with law enforcement from the last two summers. I’m not sure what I can say about the job at this point, but my title is, Public Safety Dispatcher and this is my job description:

The Navy and Marine Corps team offers innovative, exciting and meaningful work linking military and civilian talents to achieve our mission and safeguard our freedoms. Department of the Navy provides competitive salaries, comprehensive benefits, and extensive professional development and training. From pipefitters to accountants, scientists to engineers, doctors to nurses-the careers and opportunities to make a difference are endless. Civilian careers-where purpose and patriotism unite!

This position is responsible for all police, fire, and medical emergency service assets. The primary purpose of this position is to obtain the information necessary to dispatch widely dispersed police, firefighting and Emergency Medical Services (EMS) resources for non-routine emergency situations.

These will be my duties:

Monitor a variety of alarm systems (e.g., fire, call box, duress and burglary, maintenance items, etc.) to support emergency services dispatching.
Receiving emergency and non-emergency dispatch service requests by telephone, mobile radio calls, or automatic alarms in order to screen the request and obtain essential information.
Operate a Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) or equivalent automated dispatch system, in order to create/supplement events, track units, receive/monitor alarms, etc.
Determining the jurisdiction and services to be rendered in order to dispatch responders.
Communicating clear and concise data via radio with responding personnel to pass pertinent information regarding hazards at the scene.

I will be given a lot of responsibility, but I am so ready for it and so ready to be a part of what it represents. Ok, now I’m going to call my parents and inform them that I just “joined the military”. They are going to freak out! Hehehe!

xoxo
